How to prepare your dog for a canine massage

Dog massage is different than human massage because dogs don’t know they are supposed to lay down and relax while being touched by a stranger. During our first few massage sessions, I will begin to build trust with your dog and have her become used to my presence and touch.
Once your dog understands what is happening and “allows” the touch, she will be able to wholly enjoy a full massage. The sessions are approximately one hour but can vary by your dog’s tolerance that session. It is common for the dog to need breaks during a session -- to get up and walk around a bit, have a drink of water, or just have a “time out”. A massage is never forced on a dog and is dictated by the dog’s tolerance that session. To prepare your dog:
-
Be sure it has been at least one hour since her last meal.
-
Prepare a calm, quiet distraction-free area with your dog's favorite blanket, bed, or comfortable surface.
-
Take her for a walk or play session.

-
Make sure your dog has gone potty.

-
Have a small bag of 'training size' treats, chew toy, or licky-mat ready to help your good girl or boy relax.
